Particle Therapy Physics
Proton and carbon-ion beams deposit their energy at a precisely controlled depth — the Bragg peak — enabling highly conformal cancer treatment.
MCLAB studies the physics of particle therapy with Monte Carlo simulation: accurate dose calculation in heterogeneous patient anatomy, modeling of linear energy transfer (LET) and relative biological effectiveness (RBE), and design and commissioning support for beam delivery systems. Our goal is to reduce the uncertainty between planned and delivered dose.
Key Topics
- Monte Carlo dose calculation for proton / carbon-ion therapy
- LET and RBE modeling for biologically guided planning
- Beamline modeling, commissioning, and range uncertainty analysis
- Secondary radiation and out-of-field dose assessment
